Remdesivir, what is it?

Lets Talk about Remdesivir

It’s been on the news non-stop, but what  exactly is it? Remdesivir is an injectable, broad-spectrum antiviral treatment that was developed long before Covid-19 was on anyone’s radar. It was originally developed to treat Hepatitis C, but was not effective. Beginning in May the FDA granted Emergency Use Authorization for Remdesivir to be used by health care providers to be used in adults and children hospitalized by Covid-19 in severe cases, which is defined by requiring supplemental oxygen or requiring ventalation. 

And while this has helped individuals infected with Covid-19, Remdesivir comes with some side effects ranging from infusion related reactions up to causing organ impairment (specifically relating to the liver).
