Covid Tests

Finding a Covid Test

I get no fewer than 20 calls a day, it seems like everyone is looking for at-home tests. There is no denying that it's hard to find a test and/or get a PCR test. I’ve heard stories of pharmacies selling out of tests within hours. It can be frustrating when you are sick and in need of a test, but can’t get your hands on one. I’ve personally been there, driving around, calling and not being able to get one. Luckily one of my friends came through and I got one from her (thank you!).

Sanitize

So what do you do if you can’t get one? I tell my patients to err on the side of caution, and take precautions like you do have covid. Stay home, book a telehealth appointment, wear a mask, and get some rest. Also make sure to sanitize, I personally use Microban Disinfectant spray at work. Before I leave for the day I spray down my workstation, phone, mouse, and the counter where I work. I do this proactively (not because I am currently sick) but because we are in cold/flu season (in addition to covid) and it's a good practice.

Thoughts on Testing

If you do get an at-home covid test, I advise patients to hold off on testing until symptomatic. If you test too early you could get a negative result because the virus hasn’t had enough time to build up in your system to produce a positive result. I’ve personally tested using the On/Go Test, its easy to use and it comes in a pack of 2 tests. In this case you could test right away, and then again once you are symptomatic.
