Covid-19 Immunizing Pharmacist

The vaccine has been released to certain community pharmacies and it has been exciting to see pharmacists all over the country giving Covid-19 vaccines. My pharmacy was included in the early release of the vaccine, and I wanted to share some of the logistics on how it has gone for me.

My company set up an appointment scheduler, and everyone who met the requirements for Phase-1 vaccination were able to go online and make an appointment. There are obviously a lot of people looking for the vaccines, so the appointments booked up really quickly (in minutes). The appointments were set up in 12-minute intervals. We had all the patient’s data ahead of time to process and have the paperwork done.

When the patient’s arrived in the store, they were given pre-screening checklists and placed into que. An associate then informed me they were in the store, and 1 brought them into a private consultation room and would go over the screening again. They would receive the vaccine and be moved out into an observation area.

Overall the process was very streamlined and everyone was really thankful. I foresee pharmacists playing a big role in the Covid-19 vaccination program based on the success I’ve experienced as well as other pharmacist’s stories of their clinics.
