Covid-19 Burnout

The number of Covid-19 cases are on the rise, and experts are predicting that January is on target to be the worst month of the entire pandemic. Patients are experiencing the return of all the stress and anxiety that was associated with March 11, 2020 when the WHO declared the outbreak of a global pandemic. It’s hard to believe that we are going through a second wave, but here we are!

Burnout is real.

As a pharmacist I have personally felt the effects of this second wave, patients are on edge and more and it seems like everyday I get a call that another patient tested positive. There is a lot of frustration over the vaccine, people waiting in lines or on the phone to get an appointment to get the vaccine.

While I’ve never stopped wearing a mask, or washing my hands and social distancing, I can definitely say that I am feeling very burned out over the thought of this continuing into the summer of 2021, which is what most experts are predicting. And according to a recent study I am not alone; A recent survey conducted by FlexJobs and Mental Health America found that 75% of people have experienced burnout at work, with 40% saying they’ve felt it during the pandemic specifically.
