Alcohol Consumption During Covid-19
This topic has been on my mind, as I recently gave up drinking completely. With the stay-at-home orders and the increased stress and anxiety it's easy to understand why alcohol consumption has increased. But the article published in JAMA was shocking, here's what the study found;
When comparing Spring of 2019 to Spring of 2020 there has been;
-a 14% increase in adults consuming alcohol
-a 41% increase in women heavy drinking
-1 in 5 women are having an additional heavy drinking day a month
Let’s not forget that liquor stores were classified as an essential business during the pandemic.
Let’s remember that;
1 serving of alcohol is equivalent to 5 oz of wine
Excessive drinking is classified as more than 7 servings a week
It’s easy to be at or above the excessive drinking level, but what does that mean specifically for women?
Excessive drinking contributes to;
-depression/anxiety
-heart disease
-breast cancer
-liver damage
